Oil Well Cement Testing
The transition, where a slurry is already too stiff to transmit pressure and still too weak to hold anything back.
Between being a pumpable liquid and a set solid, a cement slurry passes through a window in which it can no longer transmit full hydrostatic pressure but has not yet developed structural strength. Formation gas can enter the annulus in that window. A static gel strength analyser measures the gel strength build through it.
The result is the time spent between the accepted limits, conventionally quoted between about 100 and 500 pounds force per 100 square feet. A short transition is what a gas bearing well needs, and the slurry is then designed against the measurement instead of against an assumption.
- What it measures
- Static gel strength development and the length of the transition time
- How it works
- Continuous gel strength measurement under temperature and pressure
- Where it is used
- Gas migration control on cement jobs
