Oil Well Cement Testing
Thickening time under the pressure and temperature the slurry will actually meet.
A consistometer stirs a cement slurry inside a pressurised cell while it follows a programmed pressure and temperature schedule, and reports consistency in Bearden units. The thickening time is the point at which the slurry stops being pumpable.
That figure sets the placement window for the whole job. Too short and the slurry sets in the string, too long and the rig waits. Retarder and accelerator loadings are tuned against this test, which is why it is run on the well's own schedule rather than at ambient conditions.
